Sensory-emotional product development

See where your product breaks down emotionally and sensorily— before you launch it.

The QEP Taste Signature System is the first product development platform to map sensory attributes to emotional outcomes across the full consumption experience. Stop guessing why products fail. Start preventing it.

The problem

80% of new F&B products fail. Most companies can't explain why.

Sensory panels tell you what a product is— sweetness, crunch, aroma. Consumer research tells you whether people liked it. But nothing connects the two.

When a product fails, you're left guessing: Was it the taste? The texture? The aftertaste? The expectation set by the packaging?

You know that it failed. You don't know where it broke down.

That's the gap we close.

The system

One system. Three modules. A closed loop from brief to validation.

Module 1

QEP Brief Builder

For Marketing

Translate brand objectives and Need States into precise sensory-emotional targets. Give R&D a brief they can actually build against — not "make it feel premium," but a defined emotional signature.

Module 2

QEP Taste Signature

For R&D and Sensory

Map 394 sensory and emotional variables across 7 stages of the consumption experience — from first look to aftertaste. Compare products against targets, competitors, and each other. See exactly where emotional alignment breaks down.

Module 3

QEP Capture

For Consumer Insights

Test products with real consumers. Feed results back into Taste Signature for analysis. Close the loop between development and validation.

Why it's different

What makes this different

Sensory meets emotion

We don't just measure what people taste. We map what they feel— across every stage of consuming your product.

Integration, not fragmentation

Brief, development, and testing in one system. Marketing, R&D, and Insights finally speak the same language.

Prevention, not post-mortem

Identify emotional mismatches before launch. Stop finding out in market research. Start knowing in development.

The loop

How it works

STEP 1

Define the target

Use Brief Builder to translate your brand and Need State objectives into a precise sensory-emotional signature.

STEP 2

Map the product

Use Taste Signature to assess your product across 394 variables and 7 consumption stages. See where it aligns with — or deviates from — your target.

STEP 3

Validate with consumers

Use Capture to test with real consumers. Feed results back into Taste Signature for comparative analysis.

STEP 4

Refine and repeat

Use insights to reformulate, re-test, and refine — until emotional alignment is locked in before launch.

Questions

Common questions

How is this different from sensory panel software?

Sensory panels measure attributes — sweetness, texture, aroma. We map those attributes to emotional outcomes across the full consumption journey. It's not either/or — we integrate with your existing sensory work and extend it.

How is this different from consumer research?

Consumer research tells you whether people liked something. We tell you why— and we do it during development, not after. When something doesn't land, you'll know exactly which stage of the experience broke down.

Who uses this internally?

Three teams, one system. Marketing uses Brief Builder to set targets. R&D and Sensory use Taste Signature to develop and evaluate. Consumer Insights uses Capture to validate. Everyone sees the same data.

What's the time commitment for a pilot?

We ask for one brand or product line, a point person from your team, and roughly 2–3 hours per week during active phases. We handle the heavy lifting on system setup and analysis.

What happens after the pilot?

If it works, you transition to an enterprise license at $100,000 annually. If it doesn't, you walk away with the insights you've generated and no further obligation.
